All-New 2-day Restorative Parenting/Caring Course including our powerful immersive VR experience
Cornerstone’s Restorative Parenting Training (RPT) programme and mentoring scheme will empower you, build your confidence, widen your knowledge, enhance your abilities to parent and broaden your reach to help a wider range of children.
Our 2 Day Group Work & online refresher material combines theory with the Lived Experience of the adopter/foster carer. Day 1 starts with attachment theory and, as a global first, using VR we explore developmental trauma through the eyes of the child.
This is followed on day 2 by an introduction to PACE Parenting Skills, contrasted with problem solving and conventional parenting techniques, again using the power of VR. This is followed up with access to a nine-series webinar programme focusing on adoption/fostering related topics.
Who is it aimed at
Our training is co-facilitated by a Therapist and a Cornerstone Adopter/Foster Carer and is aimed at Adopters, Foster Carers and Special Guardians during assessment and post approval, as well as Professionals.
‘The VR has had a lasting effect and I know the experience will have a positive impact on my practise’ (Social Worker)
‘I’ve been able to really empathise with our foster child and place myself in his situation’ (Foster Carer)
‘EXTREMELY POWERFUL! Really allowed me to connect with my child’s early experience’ (Adopter)
A report by CoramBAAF’s Impact and Evaluation Team found that:
- 94% of adopters felt the course equipped them with the effective techniques and strategies to parent an adoption child
- 94% of those who had a child placed with them said the course would, or already has, benefitted their adopted child
- Adopters considered the training being co-facilitated by an adopter and a therapist key for helping them understand how to apply the learning
- Adopters in early placement stage said RPT helped them think about what sort of children they could parent effectively
- RPT and mentoring on top of the standard Stage 2 adopter training made adopters more ‘appealing’ to matching panels and as a result, a high proportion of Cornerstone adopters were matched with children outside their own local authority
Ofsted report for Bracknell Forest, July 2017 – Adoption performance: Outstanding – quoted:
“Adopters value highly the support received during the recruitment process from a regional social enterprise company funded by the Department for Education innovation fund. They spoke highly of the training and support through the peer mentoring and adopter-led training, and regarded a bespoke, evidenced-based, therapeutic parenting programme highly.”
Our Restorative Parenting/Caring Programme has been developed with adoption experts from the Dyadic Developmental Practice Institute (DDPI), University of Roehampton and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The immersive virtual reality experience has been developed with Inition.
